R3 (Strong) Radio Blackout Observed with X1.6 Flare on 05 Aug
An X1.6 flare was observed from Region 3386 on 05 Aug. This flare lasted 59 minutes, peaking at 05/2221 UTC. Temporary or complete loss of High Frequency radio signals on the sunlit side of the Earth were possible during this event. A partial halo CME was associated with this flare. Analysis of this CME is ongoing, but preliminary results indicate an Earth-directed component, with the bulk of the plasma directed ahead of Earth’s orbit. Updates will be made available at 07/0030 UTC in our next Forecast Discussion | NOAA / NWS Space Weather Prediction Center.
