A long duration M2 X-ray flare (R1-Minor Radio Blackout) occurred at 1702 UTC (12:02 ET) on 9 November, 2021. This event's source region was beyond the northwest limb (upper right in GOES-16 SUVI image). The flare was associated with a limb event coronal mass ejection (CME); analysis of the CME is in progress, but initial indications suggest it is not likely to have an Earth-directed component. Additionally, this activity was associated with a small elevation in energetic proton flux at the >10 MeV level - not enough to warrant an S1 (Minor) Radiation Storm warning - but SWPC forecasters continue monitoring this closely. Continue visiting our SWPC webpage for the latest forecasts, information, and updates.
