Activity from Region 2158...
Region 2158 produced a R1 (Minor) Solar Flare Radio Blackout peaking at 00:29 GMT on September 9th (8:29 pm EDT on September 8th). This flare was a long duration event and does have an associated coronal mass ejection (CME) (shown here in this ESA/NASA SOHO LASCO image). Forecasters are awaiting further imagery, but an initial look indicates this CME is not headed directly at Earth. Modeling and analysis will continue to refine the timing and magnitude of any geomagnetic storming that will be expected as a result. Given the initial velocity estimates and direction, severe or extreme activity is not expected. Updates here as the forecast is refined.
