An R2 (Moderate HF Radio Blackout) occurred today, 14 December, 2022 at 9:42 am ET (1442 UTC). This was the result of an M6.3 flare that occurred from Region 3165. Additional, lower level M-class flares also occurred from Region 3165 and 3153 earlier today. The M6.3 flare was the largest flare thus far today. Region 3153 rotated to the limb, however, Region 3165 will be on the visible solar disc for another 2 days before beginning to rotate to and beyond the limb. The region increased in complexity overnight and remains capable of producing additional M-class flares and a slight chance for an X-class (R3-Strong) flare.
