Asymmetric Partial-Halo CME From 11 Feb 2016 to Cause G1 (Minor) Geomagnetic Storms on 14-15 Feb 2016
An asymmetric partial-halo CME was observed in coronagraph imagery beginning at 11/2128 UTC and was associated, at least in part, with a long duration C8 flare from Region 12497 at 11/2103 UTC. Initial analysis suggests this CME has an Earth-directed component and is expected to arrive late on 14 Feb/early on 15 Feb, causing periods of G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storms.
Region 2497 has grown in size and magnetic complexity over the past 24 hours and produced an M1 flare (R1 (Minor) radio blackout) at 12/1047 UTC. C-class flares are expected with a chance for another R1 (Minor) event over the next few days.
